Why would we need a licence?

In simple terms, gambling is illegal in Alderney unless it is licensed by the AGCC. We issue licences only in respect of “remote gambling” – gambling using a remote link, usually over the internet. So, if you effect gambling transactions remotely from a server or servers based in Alderney or Guernsey, you must hold a licence from the AGCC and you must locate your gaming servers in a hosting centre approved by AGCC.

The phrase “effecting gambling” covers games of chance or skill and chance played for money and includes book-making and the operation of casino games. If further or more precise analysis than this is required, it is recommended that professional advice be sought or you talk to us further.
